Jon M. Chu’s Amazing Year Gets Better With 2 Golden Globe Nominations!
Incredible news for Princess Grace Award Winning director Jon M. Chu (2001 Film, 2011 Statue Award)! His record-breaking box office film, Crazy Rich Asians, received two Golden Globe Nominations! The film is nominated for Best Motion Picture (Comedy or Musical) and lead actress Constance Wu is up for Best Actress in a Comedy/Musical. The full list of nominees was announced early Thursday morning via live-stream on the Golden Globe’s Official Facebook page and website. Jon received this monumental news along with his fans, as he watched with his baby daughter. He describes this as “the proudest moment of my career”: “This is what true pride feels like — I had never felt that before. I thought I had, but I had never felt that before." This is just the icing on the cake for Jon’s amazing year. Crazy Rich Asians was in released in August and was unbelievably successful. By September, it became the highest-grossing Romantic Comedy in a decade, exceeding 2009’s The Proposal. The film is a milestone for Asian representation in Hollywood, as it is the first Hollywood film in 25 years to have an all-Asian cast and lead actor. Just a few weeks ago, it was announced that Jon will receive the Motion Picture Showman of the Year award the 56th Annual International Cinematographers Guild Publicists Awards. He is also set to direct a film adaptation of Tony award-winning Lin Manuel Miranda’s In the Heights.
The 76th Annual Golden Globes airs January 6, 2019 at 8 pm EST on NBC, hosted by Sandra Oh and Andy Sandburg. Congratulations to Jon, Constance, and everyone else who made this phenomenal film possible! These nominations are so well-deserved!
