Ryan Guzzo Purcell is a director, teacher, and theatre artist originally from Seattle. He currently serves as the Associate Artistic Director of Magic Theatre in San Francisco, where he most recently directed the world premiere of Christina Anderson’s pen/man/ship. He also founded The Williams Project, a theatre experiment based on merging populism and excellence while paying artists a living wage. His directing work has been seen at The Hangar Theater, LaMaMa ETC, The Olney Theatre Center, and Brown Playwrights Rep, and he has worked with artists ranging from Dan Savage to Robert Wilson. He received a Fulbright Scholarship to develop a theatre piece in Salvador, Brazil. He is a Drama League Directing Fellow, a graduate of the Brown University/Trinity Rep MFA program in directing, and the recipient of a 2014 Princess Grace Theater Fellowship for Artistic Excellence.
