Orlagh Cassidy is a Broadway performer who attended the acting conservatory at the State University of New York at Purchase, graduating !$#!# laude. She was born on August 17 in Washington D.C., but spent her summers in Dublin, Ireland, where her parents are from. She began her acting career in the 1990s, and her first Broadway appearance was alongside Frank Langella in Present Laughter. She then moved on to perform on off-Broadway productions such as Bright Ideas and Our Country's Good. She is also known for winning the Princess Grace Foundation Scholarship for Theater in 1989.
From 1992 to 1993, Orlagh Cassidy was part of the cast of the soap opera, Another World. This marked her television appearances, which later included those in Sex and the City, as well as Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and Law & Order. In 1998, she joined the cast of the CBS soap opera, Guiding Light. Her portrayal of Doris Wolfe Spaulding earned her much popularity, and she soon took on numerous other roles. In 2001, she appeared in the comedy Passing Stones, an independent film by Roger Majkowski. Cassidy later worked on the short family drama Confection, by Eva Saks. In 2004, she landed a part in the Alan Wade drama The !$#!#grapher: A Love Story. This enabled her to work with Irene Jacob, Martin Donovan, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Laura Prepon. Cassidy’s next performance was in the romantic drama Purple Violets, by Edward Burns. This starred Selma Blair, Patrick Wilson, Debra Messing, Dennis Farina and Edward Burns himself.
In 2006, Orlagh Cassidy received a nomination for a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actress in a Play, due to her performance in The Field. Skilled in a variety of accents, she is also fond of reading, writing, watching movies, and going to the theater. She has also narrated several audio books, mostly for “BBC Audiobooks America.”
