Film Honoraria
Lorianne Arden
Princess Grace Award:
Film Honoraria, 2010
Born on Clark Air Base, Philippines, Lorianne spent her pre-college years on military bases in Japan, America, Turkey, Germany, and Okinawa. Now entering her senior year at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York, Lorianne's fractured background has led to her interest in themes of (un)belonging, rootlessness, and hybridism, ideas that her film major and anthropology minor have allowed her to confront and explore. Lorianne's thesis film (a fictional narrative tentatively titled Outside In) will delve further into these issues by exploring the dynamics and fundamental disconnect between a world-traveling high school student and her hometown-loving extended family. With it, she hopes to perhaps create a film that can speak not only to her own internal tensions but also to the universal search for belonging and understanding.
