Kendal Hockin

Princess Grace Award:
Undergraduate Film Scholarship, 2013

Kendal Hockin is a video artist and musician currently based in Portland, OR. He is an undergraduate thesis student in the Intermedia program at the Pacific Northwest College and the recipient of the 2012 Intermedia Merit Scholarship.

Kendal has created numerous works in performance and video during his undergraduate studies. Using rich atmospheres and stark contrasts, Kendal explores the interaction of disparate physical spaces and subjective experiences. He is currently developing his thesis film in which silence, darkness and stillness provide a sustained, layered voice against a rigid, circumscribed world. The piece will consider the impacts of indoctrinated practices, such as examining, labeling and categorizing, on an individual's interior world.
