• 2016 Professional Development Grant
A native of Atlanta, Georgia, Bernard Gilbert sports a curiosity for the world as flexible as his acting range. Upon graduating from Morehouse College Bernard was urged to become a candle in the dark, a challenge he now undertakes from the stage. Bernard has enjoyed portraying complex characters such as Antonio, in The Duchess of Malfi, The Chief Clerk, in Metamorphosis, and King Menelaus from The Trojan Women. As an MFA candidate of DePaul University’s acting program, he has trained under the tutelage of some of the nations top creative minds, like Dexter Bullard, and Nick Sandys. Bernard looks forward to working on August Wilson’s Joe Turner’s Come and Gone this fall and an original play by Nambi E. Kelley in the spring.
